On Friday, the Hamas group said it was ready to agree to certain provisions of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, including the release of hostages and the transfer of control of the enclave, but insisted on negotiations on many other conditions.
In a statement, Hamas responded to Trump’s plan. The US president gave the Palestinian group until Sunday to accept or reject the offer. Trump did not specify whether his plan included the possibility of negotiations, which Hamas has insisted on.
At the same time, Hamas has not said whether it agrees to the demand for disarmament, a condition insisted on by Israel and the United States and which the group has previously strongly rejected.
In its statement, Hamas said it “highly appreciates the efforts of Arab, Islamic and international parties, as well as US President Donald Trump, who are calling for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, a prisoner exchange and the immediate admission of humanitarian aid,” among other things.
Hamas announced its “approval of the release of all prisoners of the occupation – both living and the bodies of the dead – in accordance with the exchange formula proposed by President Trump, subject to the necessary field conditions for the implementation of this process.”
At the same time, the group added: “In this context, the movement confirms its readiness to immediately, through mediators, begin negotiations to discuss the details.”
The organization also declared its readiness to “transfer the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian authority formed of independent experts (technocrats), based on a national consensus of the Palestinians and with the support of Arab and Islamic countries.”
Trump’s plan calls for an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israel, a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a transitional government led by an international body.
