A Ukrainian drone attempted to attack the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant-2 in Kurchatov, according to regional governor Alexander Khinshtein.
“As a result of the crash, the drone hit one of the buildings on the site of the station under construction. The building was damaged by shrapnel, but there is no risk of fire,” he wrote on Telegram .
There were no casualties, and the nuclear power plant continues to operate normally.
The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is one of the largest power generating sources in the Central Black Earth Region, consuming electricity in 19 regions of Central Russia. The facility has three power units with pressure-tube reactors, with a capacity of three gigawatts.
This isn’t the first time the Ukrainian Armed Forces have attempted to attack the plant. In late August, a UAV was shot down near the plant; it detonated upon impact, damaging a transformer. Fire crews extinguished the localized fire; no one was injured.
